NBKC founding midwife, Debbie Perry, believes in the sustainability of midwifery care, which is why she has formed a team of midwives and students to provide quality care to NBKC clients while preventing midwife burnout.
Debbie Perry, CPM
Debbie began her midwifery career in the late 80s after having her own home births and working as an ICU and labor and delivery nurse for 7 years. She became a practicing home birth midwife in 1989 and has helped start three birth centers over the years. After doing births in hospital, birth center, and home, Debbie chooses to do home births exclusively because she has found they have less transfers and happier outcomes. Therefore she started her Natural Birth KC practice in 2010 in Kansas City. She has trained over 10 midwives, several of whom continue to practice and build midwifery in the Kansas City area. She has been married for over 50 years to her husband Ted and has 3 grown sons and 13 grands kids so far.
Louise DeLaney, CPM
As one of 11 children, some of Louise’s earliest memories are from the days her mother brought home a new sibling to add to the family. This planted the seeds of fascination and delight with all things pregnancy and birth that have blossomed into a full grown ministry of caring for women during the childbearing year. After a long season of doula work that included traveling the country to train women to be childbirth educators and labor doulas, she stepped away from birth work to finish raising and homeschooling her children. As her homeschooling years came to a close, she felt called back to birth work and began training as a midwife under Debbie. Since May 2023, Louise has served NBKC as Practice Manager while also being a student and is now delighted to serve as a midwife alongside Debbie until her retirement in the summer of 2026. It is her great honor to serve the women and families that trust NBKC with their care. In addition to being a Certified Professional Midwife, Louise is also a Certified Waterbirth Provider and the owner of Sweet Miracles Midwifery in Holden, MO. She has been married to her best friend Ed since 2001 and has two adult children.
